Juicy
Sarah Bowen Gallery has extended Karen Lyon's solo show "i think i love you."
Her work, which the Village Voice characterizes as compelling photo-realism with a "deep appreciation for surface beauty," is on display through this weekend. If you aren't already hip to the Williamsburg gallery scene, this is a great place to start.

An Alternative to War
My friend Kaleil landed in Baghdah wednesday. He's braving the war zone for the sake of Culture and Business, two things i'd love to see nurtured world-wide. And as a matter of fact, he really is on a world-wide mission: some of you may remember Kaleil as the subject/star of the movie Startup.com, which chronicled the rise and fall of his internet company a few years ago. His newest venture, JumpTV.com, aims to bring television programming from third-world countries to immigrant communities around the world. Iraq is just one of over 40 countries with content streaming through this online tv network, with content viewers in over 70 countries. Currently, JumpTV is offering 5 Iraqi stations, with content ranging from the trial of Saddam Hussein to Iraq's version of American Idol. Nice to know there's culture to discover, even if the tunes are unfamiliar.

Nice Notice
Wristcutters-A Love Story got a cool blurb on the front page of IMDB this morning. They think it's "destined-for-cult-classic-status." Audiences agree!

Nugget of Bass
Lance Bass, 'N Synch -er famous for wanting-to-stay-famous-while-doing-nada (remeber when he crashed Jonathan's party at Sundance a few years ago?) has a blog on MySpace.com SERIOUS. I'm scared. I can't look. Somebody look for me. That ho is all over Sundance every year, skimmin' swag and acting popular. And who knew he's trolling for teenagers on MySpace.com?

More Good Stuff
Roger Ebert on Flannel Pajamas: I have seen one of the wisest films I can remember about love and human intimacy. It is a film of integrity and truth, acted fearlessly, written and directed with quiet, implacable skill. I will not forget it.

NYC: Saturday 1/28 Where I'll Be
Southside Lounge 4th Anniversary Party!!!
(for those of you who don't know, i'm one of the owners of this Willamsburg speakeasy -h.)
DJ's from all our weekly parties will be spinning. Some of our favorite people will be Go-Go dancing. There will be much drinking and revelry.
From NY Magazine(2005):
Southside feels like a house party at a cool friend’s apartment—if said friend had a full bar. This hip hideaway is populated with a thoroughly local set of interesting types.
For those of you who remember Roubelade, Save The Robots, and that secret S. 6th St. Afterhours Joint from years past will be happy to know the spirit is alive and well and hangin' at Southside. See you there!
Southside Lounge is at 41 Broadway between Wythe and Kent in South Williamsburg. J/M/Z to Marcy, walk towards the river.

Do The Wave
From The Hollywood Reporter's review of Flannel PJ's:
"A thoughtful dissection of the courtship and marriage of two ultimately mismatched New Yorkers, film is destined to be a conversation piece among sophisticated couples."

So Much Knowledge
So an anti-spam company called Unspam has created a mathmatical system to weed out bad movies as if they were junkmail. They then predict the big festival hits using more of their amazing science. The good news is that Flannel PJ's and The Hawk is Dying come out as WINNERS. Now these results are based on... well, i don't really know what they're based on but i like the results... it has something to do with 200 data points per movie, 10 years of collected data, and training a supercomputer to analyze the material...
