Music Soothes

According to fabu gossip rag Defamer: "Grown Iraqi men get misty-eyed by the mere mention of [Lionel Ritchie's] name. 'I love Lionel Richie,' they say. Iraqis who do not understand a word of English can sing an entire Lionel Richie song."

This Sounds Good

Tomorrow nite, Friday, Congolese Soukous star Kanda Bongo Man makes a rare club performance at SOB's. I have seen so much great music at SOB's over the years, and danced my ASS off there so many times, need more be said? Ok, just a bit more:

According to the LeopardMan site, Soukous mixes Caribbean rumba rhythms and traditional African music.

SOB's is west of Soho on the corner of Varick aand w. Houston

Tonite's Event

Tom Leach Plays Pete's Candy Store Live Tonite! 11pm show

"It’s been too long since Tom Leach last played live, but here’s the payoff: The incredibly talented local tunesmith’s been busy writing new songs, and like all of his other ones, his latest batch, 7 Song Tape/Thank You for the Coffee, could make even Johnny Cash and Hank Williams cry. Don’t miss this show: Leach has a heart as big as the moon and a voice that could melt glass. With Jeremy Forbis and Jon Regan." -Village Voice

Pete's Candy Store is at 709 Lorimer St., Williamsburg

Un-Pre-Dict-able

So I'm watching Ellen yesterday, loving the Jeff Bridges interview, and then BAM, Jamie Foxx comes out and ruins my afternoon. I don't get it, folks, I just don't get it. I was literally cringing as i listened to Foxx, it was like listening to grandparents having phone sex, I mean I found his sexuality EMBARASSING.

It reminds me of the time I hung out with this aging rock band (whose name i will not drop), and the guitarist invited us into his hotel room while he was in his underwear, and I realized I was supposed to act impressed, but all i felt was ICKY because this was not the rock icon i remembered, this was an old guy in sweaty drawers.

I've been shuddering when I hear Foxx is singing ever since I heard "Unpredictable" with unforgettably bad lyrics like "instead of dinner and a movie, why don't i have you for dinner and we'll make a movie?" Then he's talking about how his daughter is 12 and he won't ever let her grow up. Ugh.
